Livescribe Desktop Configurator v1 (legacy) Imprimer E-mail

If you use Livescribe Desktop v2.x, please use Livescribe Desktop Configurator v2.

Livescribe Desktop Configurator v1 (legacy): Allows you to configure hidden options of Livescribe Desktop v1.x for Windows.
You may then change the storage folder location (known as "My Livescribe"), or change the internet connection proxy settings.

If you want to use Livescribe Desktop at work, use it on multiple computers, and store your data on a safe drive, this software is for you !

  • It let you change the 'My Livescribe' Folder location, you can set it to a mapped drive or a usb stick for instance.
  • It can be used on two different Livescribe Desktop installations in order to share the same storage folder (for instance on your two computer, or among two different users wanting to collaborate), this by pointing the Livescribe Desktop storage folder to a drive mapped (or USB drive) shared between multiple computers.
  • It can let you switch between multiple storage folders, for example a private one and a shared one.
  • It can also let you configure manually the proxy settings.

Known Limitations

  • Only Livescribe Desktop for Windows is supported.
  • Only Livescribe Desktop version up to 1.7 is supported.


Usage

Use case: Change the 'My Livescribe' folder location

  1. IMPORTANT: Backup your 'My Livescribe' folder (just in case...) (the livescribe folder is located in 'My Documents\My Livescribe').
  2. Install and start this software.
  3. Select the "Storage Folder" tab.
  4. Select the "Move" sub-tab.
  5. Click on "Move My Livescribe folder to a new location"
  6. Select a folder where you want your Livescribe data to be stored.
    Note: It must be empty, you can create a new one by pressing on the "Make new folder" button.
  7. Restart Livescribe Desktop, and check that your notebooks are in the left "Library" tab.
  8. You may also want to check that the files where moved by exploring the new folder location, use windows explorer.

Use case: Change the Livescribe Desktop internet connexion settings (proxy)

  1. Install and start this software.
  2. Select the "Proxy" tab.
  3. Select the "System Default Proxy" radio button.
    Note: This tells Livescribe desktop to use the same proxy configuration than the Internet Explorer settings.
  4. Click on "Change Proxy Settings"
  5. Restart Livescribe Desktop, and Check that searching for updates performs correctly.
    Note: In Livescribe Desktop clic "Check for Updates" in the "Help" menu.

Use case: Share the same the 'My Livescribe' folder between multiple computers

Known limitation: This will not allow you to merge serveral already existing datas from multiple 'My Livescribe' folders into one.
WARNING: Simultaneous usage of the same data folder has not been tested deeply, it 'seems' to work but be aware that you may corrupt your data folder. Try it at your own risk!
  1. IMPORTANT: Backup all your 'My Livescribe' folder (just in case...) (the livescribe folder is located in 'My Documents\My Livescribe', this for each computer).
  2. On the 1st computer, the one from which you want to re-use the data
    1. Install and start this software.
    2. Select the "Storage Folder" tab.
    3. Select the "Move" sub-tab.
    4. Click on "Move My Livescribe folder to a new location"
    5. Select a folder that is common to the multiple computers where you want your Livescribe data to be stored.
      Tip: You can use a mapped drive or a USB drive.
    6. Note: It must be empty, you can create a new one by pressing on the "Make new folder" button.
    7. Restart Livescribe Desktop, and check that your notebooks are in the left "Library" tab.
    8. You may also want to check that the files where moved by exploring the new folder location, use windows explorer.
  3. On the other computers
    1. Install and start this software.
    2. Select the "Storage Folder" tab.
    3. Select the "Switch" sub-tab.
    4. Click on "Switch to another My Livescribe folder location"
    5. Select the folder that is common to the multiple computers where the Livescribe data is stored.
      Note: It's the one you selected on the 1st computer, for example the mapped drive or USB drive.
    6. Restart Livescribe Desktop, and check that your notebooks are in the left "Library" tab.

Use case: Create a new collaborative storage folder between multiple computers, and switch between you private one and this new share

  4. On all computers, you can switch from your personal to the private data folder (and vice/versa)
    1. Start this software.
    2. Select the "Storage Folder" tab.
    3. Select the "Switch" sub-tab.
    4. Click on "Switch to another My Livescribe folder location"
    5. Select the storage folder that you want to use.
      Note: It can be your personal one (for example located in 'My Documents\My Livescribe', or the shared that is the one you selected on the 1st computer, for example the mapped drive.
    6. Restart Livescribe Desktop, and check that your personal or shared notebooks are in the left "Library" tab.

Tip

  1. Make sure you have a version of Livescribe Desktop between v1.0 and v1.7.
    Note: In Livescribe Desktop clic "About" in the "Help" menu.

Troubleshoot

Installation issues

Some users are facing problems with Microsoft installation process, to solve this you can:
  1. Make sure you have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed, this by performing Windows Update.
    • On Windows XP: Start Menu > All programs > Windows Update > Custom > Software, Optional > Select all .NET framework related updates > Review updates > Install Updates. Repeat Windows Update until all updates are installed.
    • On Windows Vista: Control Panel > Security > Windows Update > View available updates > select all .NET Framework related updates > Install Updates. Repeat Windows Update until all updates are installed.
  2. Download Livescribe Desktop Configurator executables (no installer) from here
  3. Unzip the content of this file to somewhere like c:\Program Files, and create a shortcut of the .exe that you drop in your start menu

Cannot Start Application

TROUBLESHOOT Screenshot 'Cannot Start Application' If you get the "Cannot Start Application" error while installing, this is a common bug of Microsoft, so please do the following operations:
  1. In windows file explorer, in the navigation bar type:
    "%USERPROFILE%\local settings\Application Data\IsolatedStorage"
    (without the double quotes), and then press enter.
    Then, select all folders you see and delete them (they are just installation temporary files that Microsoft forgot).
  2. Repeat the above operation in:
    "%USERPROFILE%\local settings\Apps\2.0\Data"
